Barcelona have agreed to pay €4m in compensation to Enrique Setien, who was sack four years ago.
Ufabet reported on Saturday that Barcelona have reached an agreement to pay Enrique Setién €4m in compensation since sacking the 65-year-old coach four years ago.
Barcelona appoint Setien as the new manager after Ernesto Valverde in mid-January 2020 on a two-year deal, but he lasted just seven months before being sack by then-Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu following a humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
However, financially struggling Barcelona have yet to pay Setién compensation and there has been no indication that the club will pay the sum, prompting the 65-year-old to take legal action over the issue, with UFABET reporting that the two parties will now negotiate a solution and eventually reach an agreement.
Barcelona have reportedly agree to pay Setién €4m in compensation, to be paid in six instalments, although it is not clear how long this will take.
Barca divided the four million owed Setien into six which would means they have paid him €666,000 on six different occasions.
Setien was appoint as Barcelona’s manager on January 13, 2020, replacing the dismissed Ernesto Valverde. Setien managed 25 Barca games during his seven months in charge. He did not win a trophy during that period.
The Spanish manager declared he would drag Barca to court after they sacked him, but the club settled the matter out of court in the end.
For Enrique Setién, he has been out of work since parting ways with Villarreal in September last year, having taken over as Yellow Submarine boss in October 2022.
